Weekend of May 23 – 25: Energy Gates Qigong & Qigong Tui Na

May 23 - May 25

May 23 & 24 (Saturday and Sunday)

Energy Gates Qigong: Cloud Hands for Healing Chronic Illness and Injuries

For Beginners and Experienced Students

Energy Gates™Qigong is a 3,000-year-old self-healing qigong (chi gung) system from China. This qigong practice is well suited for all practitioners interested in understanding qigong, tai chi, or any form of energy work at a deeper level.

Energy Gates Qigong teaches the fundamentals of how to activate and harness qi (chi), your life-force energy, to improve health, reduce stress and offset the effects of aging.

You won’t find a more efficient qigong set for going internal, releasing your body and boosting your energy than what Energy Gates Qigong offers in just six exercises: Standing, Cloud Hands, the Three Swings, and the Spine Stretch.

In this weekend course, beginners will learn the Energy Gates Clouds Hands exercise and how to practice it to circulate qi throughout one’s body. Experienced students will learn more refined aspects of this practice.

You’ll also learn how physical and energetic bindings and blockages in your body can cause or contribute to chronic illness or injuries you experience, and how to use Cloud Hands to release such bindings for relief from these conditions and any pain or discomfort you experience.

Cloud Hands

Cloud Hands is a slow-motion qigong movement that teaches you to continuously and smoothly move your arms, legs, waist and torso in an integrated, coordinated manner as you repeatedly shift weight and turn from side to side. This qigong movement is extremely useful in building a strong energetic foundation connecting the energy of your whole body to your spine. It is one of the most powerful and comprehensive single qigong exercises ever developed in terms of how it enhances and balances the qi flows in your body.

Over 400 forms of the Cloud Hands movement appear in many tai chi styles. Energy Gates Cloud Hands is the original Taoist form from which the others were derived.

Chronic Conditions

Chronic conditions are those that persist over a long period of time. Such conditions can be: hereditary; caused by lifestyle issues such as poor diet, lack of exercise or improper use of your body; or result from injuries, or surgeries that do not heal fully or properly.

One of the most fundamental principles of health in the Taoist Water Tradition and Chinese medicine can be stated as “If there is pain, there is no connection. If there is connection, there is no pain.” Connection refers to whether your qi is flowing in a connected and continuous manner throughout your body. Where it does not, pain, discomfort, weakness, and illness result.

From this perspective, whenever you have a chronic condition, regardless of its cause, an important way to address the condition is to re-establish proper flows of qi through the affected areas and your entire body.

Cloud Hands for Chronic Conditions

When using Energy Gates Qigong to re-establish proper flows of qi in your body, the Cloud Hands exercise builds on what you begin in the standing practice while sinking qi (see the description for the companion Energy Gates Standing weekend offered February 29 & March 1).

While standing and sinking qi you especially re-establish the downward current of qi that flows through your whole body. This current clears, cleanses, moves and grounds your energy within and through all your physical body systems.

Then, when you practice the Cloud Hands exercise, you continue to use your mind to sink qi in waves from the top of your head to below your feet while your body is moving. The movements of Cloud Hands are designed to facilitate these downward waves.

Here another big principle of qigong comes into play, which is that “the down creates the up.” This refers to the fact that whenever you re-establish/enhance your downward current of energy, this naturally stimulates upward flows/currents in response.

The upward current of energy is that which enlivens and activates your body. Such rising qi helps to energize and release in an upward and outward direction any blocked, stagnant, or otherwise diminished places in your body which serve as places for chronic illness and injuries to reside.

The Cloud Hands exercise, with its repeated turning and shifting weight while one arm sinks as the other rises, creates a circulation between downward and upward currents of qi. This circulation naturally recruits many other important flows in your body.

Through practice of Cloud Hands, you can gain the capacity to effect your own self-healing. You can awaken and guide qi flows through your body to release and open blocked or diminished areas that contribute to chronic illness or injuries.

Releasing Specific Chronic Illnesses and Types of Injuries

Master Frantzis spent many years training and working as a qigong therapist in Chinese clinics and has treated over 10,000 patients. Re-establishing healthy and balanced flows of qi in people’s bodies was an important part of his work.

In this course, he will share how Cloud Hands can be used to address various specific types of chronic illnesses and injuries.

Within the time frame of a weekend course, Master Frantzis will only be able to address a limited number of specific example situations. Yet through these examples and his explanations of overarching principles, you’ll gain significant knowledge about how to apply Cloud Hands to situations of specific interest to you.

Full Weekend Price – $345.00 , after May 9 – $395.00

Training Progression

This weekend’s event will be the second of two companion Energy Gates Qigong weekends to be offered at the Center this year. Part one will be offered from February 29 to March 1, and will focus on the application of the Standing and Sinking Qi exercise to healing chronic illness and injuries.

For beginners, attendance at one or ideally both of these weekends will offer an excellent introduction to Energy Gates Qigong, including insights into how to apply Energy Gates practices to particular health issues.

For experienced Energy Gates practitioners the two weekends will be wonderful opportunities to gain feedback on your practice and deepen your knowledge of how to use Energy Gates in your life.

Master Frantzis taught a two-week Energy Gates Intensive Training last summer (2019). If you attended that training, these weekends will be opportunities to get guidance and feedback on your practice and further development. Such in-person feedback will be especially useful if you are seeking instructor certification coming out of that training.

For all students, attendance at these weekends will be excellent preparation for attendance at the Heaven and Earth Qigong week-long event this summer.

An excellent resource for independent study and as a reference for this event is Master Frantzis’ book entitled Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body, available at Amazon.com.

Qigong Tui Na Bodywork: Foundational Practices

For Beginners to Experienced Qigong and Bodywork Practitioners

This course will be taught by Master Frantzis and Senior Instructor Bill Ryan, who has studied qigong tui na with Master Frantzis for over 35 years.

Your qi determines the state of your health. If it is flowing freely in a balanced manner throughout your body, you have good health. If it becomes blocked, stagnant or imbalanced, illness will follow. Similarly, if your body becomes injured or diseased, your qi becomes blocked, stagnant or out of balance.

Physical tui na, or “bodywork,” is the branch of Chinese medicine which focuses on healing and massage using physical manipulation with the hands. Techniques include pressing acupuncture points, joint manipulation, and deep tissue work. Ordinary tui na affects the body’s qi indirectly.

Whereas, qigong tui na, or “energy bodywork” goes to the next level and works more directly with the subtle qi or energy anatomy. Adept qigong tui na healers move fluidly between physical and purely energetic techniques to unblock, free and balance qi in others.

Physical tui na and qigong tui na are two of the eight branches of Chinese medicine.

A primary aspect of qigong tui na training involves learning how to keep yourself from becoming physically, energetically, emotionally or spiritually exhausted, including:

  • Protecting yourself from absorbing the energy of your patients.
  • Regenerating your own energy.
  • Maintaining compassion for your patients and not losing heart.

Qigong tui na training also includes learning to teach other people how to do particular qigong exercises which will help stabilize the gains made through your hands-on work.

In this day-long course, Master Frantzis will share insights into important overall principles of qigong tui na, and teach foundational techniques used in its practice.

He will explain how in order to learn qigong tui na you first learn different qigong sets to help open, energize, balance and ground your own system. Then you will have an embodied understanding of how to apply the techniques of each set to other people’s systems.

The first two qigong sets that you study for purposes of learning qigong tui na in the Taoist Water Tradition are Energy Gates Qigong and Dragon and Tiger Qigong. There are many techniques that you learn in these two sets that you can immediately apply to bodywork.

For example, you learn to maintain the standing qi-enhancing alignments you learn in Energy Gates (as taught in our February 29 to March 1 weekend) at all times for yourself while you do qigong tui na. And you also learn to position your clients with these alignments while you are working with them in either sitting or lying down positions.

And when you need to loosen or free the energy in a client’s arm or leg, the qi-flow-inducing movement techniques of the Energy Gates Cloud Hands exercise (as taught in the two-day weekend prior to this course) are ones that you’ll want to understand and apply when appropriate.

Or, if you’re wanting to work with a client’s qi flows inside them by moving and clearing energy in their energy field around them, you’ll use techniques you learn in Dragon and Tiger Qigong. Dragon and Tiger is an acupuncture meridian-line-qigong system in which you learn to enhance and balance your own energy system by feeling—and eventually pushing and pulling—energy in your etheric field as you move your hands over your body following specific pathways.

In this course Master Frantzis will gauge the interests, experience, and knowledge of the students in attendance, and then he will teach various energy techniques drawn from Energy Gates Qigong and Dragon and Tiger Qigong.

You will go home with a wealth of knowledge to practice on your own and with your friends and clients.

This is a must-attend day for anyone who is interested in energetic healing methods. The opportunity to study with a master of energy healing techniques that date back thousands of years is not to be missed.
